Sandpoint massage therapy, just across the Long Bridge

Work Well Massage is Jessie’s private studio in Athol, about 33 minutes south of Sandpoint on US-95. She is the only therapist, practicing since 2008, and every style costs the same flat rate with hot stones and aromatherapy included.

Mountain and lake

Ski legs, lake shoulders and long winters

Sandpoint lives between Schweitzer Mountain and Lake Pend Oreille, and the body keeps score of both.

Ski season on Schweitzer

Days on the mountain load the thighs, knees and lower back, and a long season of lift lines and cold chairlifts adds stiffness on top. Hot stone massage warms the quads, hamstrings and back before Jessie works deeper, which makes it a natural choice after a big weekend.

Summers on Lake Pend Oreille

Sailing, paddleboarding and long days at the City Beach end of town are hard on shoulders and hips in ways you only notice in September. Thai massage combines compression with assisted stretches to open tight hips and shoulders without forcing anything.

Dark months

North Idaho winters are long and grey. If you are carrying more stress or headaches than sore muscles, aromatherapy massage pairs a relaxing session with essential oils picked for calm or easier breathing, and many people find it a welcome lift in the dark months.

Worth 33 minutes

Why make the drive from Sandpoint

Because you get Jessie every time. Work Well is a one-therapist studio, so the person who learned how your knees and back respond in December is the one who sees you again in March.

Jessie has practiced since 2008. Work Well is Christian-owned, which she lives out through fair pricing, respect for each client and clear professional boundaries.

One hour is $100, 90 minutes is $140 and two hours is $180, for every style. Heated stones and aromatherapy are always included, so a hot stone session costs the same as a Swedish one. The Work Well price list has the rest.

Heading south

Getting here from Sandpoint

Take US-95 south over the Long Bridge, through Sagle, and continue past Cocolalla and Careywood into Athol. From downtown Sandpoint the drive is about 33 minutes and about 26 miles with no traffic, mostly open highway along the lake and through the timber.

Athol, ID 83801

It is a private home studio without highway signage, so follow your map app, and call or text (208) 410-4005 if you need directions. In winter, check road conditions before you leave; Jessie would rather move your appointment than have you rush on ice.

Live on the south shore of the lake? Bayview is only about 13 minutes from the studio; see massage for Bayview. Sagle, Cocolalla and Careywood drive times are on the service area page.

Plan the trip

Making a 33-minute drive worth it

Book a longer session. From Sandpoint the round trip runs a little over an hour, so it often makes sense to choose 90 minutes ($140) or two hours ($180), especially after a ski week when both your legs and your back need attention.

Plan around the weather

Winter on US-95 between Sagle and Athol can bring snow, slush and black ice. Morning and midday appointments give you daylight in both directions, and Saturday sessions by appointment help if you work through the week.

Come in with a goal

Tell Jessie what you are recovering from, be it the mountain, the lake or a long, dark winter, and she will spend the time where it counts. The Massage Match quiz can help you decide ahead of time. If you want slower, firmer pressure on stubborn knots than hot stones alone give, ask for deep tissue massage instead.
